The STM Group of the University of Perugia is participating to the European Life project SEA-MATTER “Revalorization of coastal algae wastes in textile nonwoven industry with applications in building noise isolation” The project is focused on demonstrating that it is possible the revalorization of coastal algae and seaweed wastes as raw material for developing reinforcement structures for composites products by means of wet-laid technology.
The role of the University of Perugia in the project will mainly be to search and develop application based on thermoplastic polymer composites reinforced with fibers and mats derived from seaweeds.
The partners of the project are all from Spain and are: AITEX, which is a Spanish non-profit making private association formed by textile and related companies. In the field of standardization and quality, it has advanced testing laboratories that are authorized to award several certifications. IEL The Ecology Coastal Institute of the Comunitad Valenciana which has been developing in the last ten years the monitoring of the conservation status of the Posidonia oceanica in Valencia. ATEVAL (Spain)which is the association of textile industries.
